Hey all.. Hope you all are having great day. Who doesn’t love to flaunt their silky smooth hair every day. But in winter it is really tough to maintain our hair. During the winter months, cold outside weather combined with dry indoor heat can wreak havoc on your strands, leading to split ends and breakage. Winter welcomes dry and brittle hair with it. In winter we must take atmost care of our hair in order to maintain it healthy. So here are my suggestions to maintain healthy mane.
HOT OIL TREATMENT
You girls might have read it billion times over the internet but trust me girls this tip is gonna be your life savior especially if you have dry hair. I have extremely dry and frizzy hair that is often prone to split ends. Initially I didn’t believe in hot oil massaging, but later I Incorporated it in my hair care routine and it made huge difference in my hair texture. I’m following this for some months now and my hair is less frizzy and it is less prone to split ends.
Take some hair oil in a bowl. You can use coconut oil or olive oil or any oil that suits you. But stay away from hair oils with mineral oil since they won’t nourish your hair. Warm it up using double boiler method and then massage the warm oil all over you scalp and apply some oil to your hair ends. Now leave it for about atleast 30 minutes. You can also leave it for overnight also. Then wash your hair with shampoo that suits you.
SWITCH TO MOISTURIZING SHAMPOO
Winter months strip moisture from your hair strands so don’t let your shampoo to strip natural oil from your scalp. Try to use moisturizing shampoo in order to reduce dryness in your hair. The shampoos that you use normally may make your hair even more drier in winter leading to breakage so try using moisturizing shampoos.
REDUCE FREQUENCY OF SHAMPOOING
Don’t wash your hair often. It leads to dry and itchy scalp in this winter. You may wash twice or once a week depending upon your hair and scalp type. If your hair is extremely oily even in the winter then you may wash your hair thrice a week.
USE OIL AND BUTTER BASED CONDITIONERS TO LOCK EXTRA MOISTURE
In winter you must use rich conditioners to moisturize your hair strands. Try to use conditioners that have oils and butters in it. Conditioners with Shea butter are good for dry hair. So choose your conditioners wisely.
STICK TO YOUR WEEKLY TREATMENTS
You should treat your hair with hair masks every week end. Try not to skip this routine. Many girls suffer from dandruff problem during winter months. If you suffer from dandruff, then use neem mask as your weekly treatment.
ANTI DANDRUFF TREATMENT
Take 3 to 4 spoons of neem leaf powder in a bowl. Now add coconut milk or curd to obtain paste like consistency. Now apply this mask all over scalp and leave it for about 30 minutes. Now wash it with cold water and shampoo. You can adjust the quantity if neem powder depending upon your hair density.
You must deep condition your hair to lock in moisture during winter. You can use store bought deep conditioners but I prefer using home made one.
Take 1 fully ripe banana. Now add honey and curd to it. Blend it well in a blender. Your hair mask is ready to use.
Apply this all over your hair length if you use neem mask on your scalp. It you don’t use neem mask then you can apply this all over hair and scalp and leave it for about 30 minutes and then wash it with cold water and shampoo.
You can use any weekly treatment depending upon your hair concern.
CUT OFF HEAT STYLING
Heat tools are your enemy during winter. It just worsens your hair condition. The heat from heat tools makes your hair drier day by day. In winter your already dry hair will just break if you use your flat iron or curler. Even if you use blow drier try to use it in medium to low heat.
LIGHT WEIGHT OILS AS LEAVE IN
Light weight oils like argan, jojoba oil acts as leave in. It moisturizes your hair and also prevents your from from drying without making it oily. Just take some drops of oil and apply it along your hair length. You can also use coconut or olive oil but try to use very tiny amount of oil else you will end up making your hair sticky and oily.
SAY NO TO HAIR COLOURING IN WINTER
Hair colouring will make your hair drier. Colouring your hair in winter is not a good idea. Colouring will worsen your hair texture and it becomes difficult to maintain the hair. So try to avoid colouring your hair in winter months.
USE SILK PILLOW CASE AND SAY BYE TO SPLIT ENDS
The normal cotton pillow cover strips moisture from your hair strands and make it frizzy the very next day. It also leads to split ends. So use silk pillow cover in order to reduce frizz and split ends. Silk pillow cover doesn’t strip moisture from hair and thus it reduces chances for split ends and frizzy hair.
USE WARM OR COLD WATER TO WASH YOUR HAIR
This you might have heard this million times. But this is actually important. It might be tempting to have a hot shower in winter but it will dry your hair and skin in this winter. So try to take warm or cold shower to minimize dryness in your hair.
